How to join 3/8" (9.5 mm) OD and 5/8" BSP (7/8"-14 nut), and what stops it leaking.
Not a direct fit. Joining John Guest 3/8" push-fit to 5/8" BSP beer thread (shank / coupler) needs a 3/8 push-fit to 5/8 BSP shank adapter (John Guest PI451215FS).

The part to buy
In UK dispense the 3/8 line reaches a tap shank through a 3/8 push-fit to 5/8 BSP adapter. The push-fit end grips the 3/8 (9.53mm) tube and the 5/8 BSP end screws onto the shank against a flat washer. This is the standard way onto a UK shank without cutting into vinyl and barbs.
The 5/8 BSP end seals on a washer, so if the shank weeps the washer is missing or cut, not the thread. Do not tape a BSP beer thread that is meant to seal on a washer, and do not confuse the shank thread with the smaller 3/8 BSP some inline taps use.
