Connect Sanke D coupler (American Sankey) to 5/8" BSP beer thread (shank / coupler)
How to join type D, G5/8 ports and 5/8" BSP (7/8"-14 nut), and what stops it leaking.
These connect directly. Sanke D coupler (American Sankey) mates with 5/8" BSP beer thread (shank / coupler) without an adapter.
The two ends
- End A
- Sanke D coupler (American Sankey) (type D, G5/8 ports)
- End B
- 5/8" BSP beer thread (shank / coupler) (5/8" BSP (7/8"-14 nut))
- A seals on
- flat washer on each threaded port; barbs seal under a worm clamp
- B seals on
- flat nylon or fibre washer on the face of the thread
- Part needed
- none, direct fit
The Sanke D coupler's beer-out and gas-in ports are 5/8 BSP on a 7/8-14 nut, the same thread as a tap shank, so any 5/8 BSP tail, tap or fitting screws straight on. This is why homebrew shank hardware connects to a commercial keg with no special adapter.
The gas-in and beer-out ports are the same 5/8 BSP thread, so it is easy to cross them. Fit the gas line to the port marked for gas, usually with a check valve, and the beer tail to the beer-out, or you push CO2 the wrong way through the keg.
