The MFL end of a gas shutoff presents a 1/4 male flare, so it screws straight into an FFL swivel or a push-in flare fitting on the gas line. The shutoff then isolates that one keg's gas without touching the regulator.
The flare end seals on its face, so keep it clean and tape free. If the shutoff also carries a check valve, note its direction so it faces the keg; a backwards check valve blocks the CO2 you are trying to add.
