Rating / role
the piece that turns a shank thread into a hose barb for vinyl beer line

Used on: behind a shank or on a coupler tail, taking 3/16 or 1/4 inch ID beer line.

The tailpiece is the adapter between the 7/8-14 shank world and vinyl line. Its shoulder seats against the shank on a washer held by the beer nut, and its barb takes 3/16 or 1/4 line under a clamp. Two seals on one part: a washer at the shank, a clamp at the barb, and neither wants tape.

Flare fittings seal on the 45 degree flare face and must never be taped. Push-in fittings seal on an O-ring against the tube wall and need the tube cut square. Barbs seal under a worm clamp. Getting the sealing method right matters more than the thread label, because most homebrew leaks are a taped flare or an unclamped barb.
