Connect Nitrogen / beer-gas regulator to MFL male flare (1/4")
How to join CGA-580 inlet, 5/16" barb out and 1/4" MFL (7/16"-20 UNF), and what stops it leaking.
Not a direct fit. Joining Nitrogen / beer-gas regulator to MFL male flare (1/4") needs a 1/4 MFL barb or FFL fitting to match the regulator outlet.
The two ends
- End A
- Nitrogen / beer-gas regulator (CGA-580 inlet, 5/16" barb out)
- End B
- MFL male flare (1/4") (1/4" MFL (7/16"-20 UNF))
- A seals on
- washer in the CGA-580 nut on the tank; barb under a worm clamp or flare on its face at the outlet
- B seals on
- metal 45 degree flare face, never PTFE tape
- Part needed
- 1/4 MFL barb or FFL fitting to match the regulator outlet
The part to buy
If a nitrogen regulator has an MFL flare outlet rather than a barb, it presents a 1/4 male flare, so an FFL swivel or an MFL-to-barb adapter takes it onto your gas line. This is the same flare hardware a CO2 regulator uses.
Decide by the outlet you actually have: a barb outlet wants 5/16 line and a clamp, a flare outlet wants an FFL swivel and no tape. The nitro difference is upstream at the CGA-580 cylinder, not here at the outlet.
