Rating / role
the North American connection for nitrogen, argon and beer-gas (N2/CO2 mix) cylinders, up to 3000 psig

Used on: the outlet of nitrogen, argon and beer-gas cylinders used to pour nitro stout and to push beer without carbonating it; the nitrogen regulator inlet nut screws onto it.

CGA-580 is the nitrogen and beer-gas cousin of the CO2-only CGA-320. It is 0.965-14 NGO right hand, a larger thread than the 0.825-14 of CGA-320, so a CO2 regulator will not screw onto a nitrogen tank and the reverse is also blocked. Do not confuse it with the left-hand CGA-590, which is 0.965-14 NGO LH for other gases.

Flare fittings seal on the 45 degree flare face and must never be taped. Push-in fittings seal on an O-ring against the tube wall and need the tube cut square. Barbs seal under a worm clamp. Getting the sealing method right matters more than the thread label, because most homebrew leaks are a taped flare or an unclamped barb.
