Connect Duotight 6.5mm push-in to Duotight 8mm push-in
How to join 6.5 mm (1/4") OD and 8 mm (5/16") OD, and what stops it leaking.
Not a direct fit. Joining Duotight 6.5mm push-in to Duotight 8mm push-in needs a Duotight 6.5mm to 8mm reducer.
The two ends
- End A
- Duotight 6.5mm push-in (6.5 mm (1/4") OD)
- End B
- Duotight 8mm push-in (8 mm (5/16") OD)
- A seals on
- double EPDM O-ring on the tube outer wall
- B seals on
- double EPDM O-ring on the tube outer wall
- Part needed
- Duotight 6.5mm to 8mm reducer
The part to buy
A 6.5mm Duotight body takes only the 4mm ID x 6.5mm OD EVABarrier and an 8mm body takes only 8mm OD tube, so the two sizes do not share a collet. A 6.5mm to 8mm reducer is a push-in on each size and steps a thin line up to the standard 8mm run.
Do not try to seat 6.5mm tube in an 8mm collet padded with tape or a shim. The double O-ring is sized to the exact tube wall, so an undersized tube simply blows out under gas. Use the reducer.
