The part to buy

Many distribution manifolds are built on a 1/4 NPT block, so the feed from the regulator lands on a 1/4 NPT port that is taped, while the outlets are MFL flares or barbs. The NPT feed and the flare outlets follow opposite sealing rules on one part.

Tape only the 1/4 NPT feed, because it is tapered and seals on the thread; never tape the MFL outlets, which seal on the flare face. Mixing these up, taping a flare or leaving the NPT dry, is the usual reason a fresh manifold hisses.
